Spirit of Special Olympics

That the "Spirit of Special Olympics" — skill, courage, sharing and joy — incorporates universal values which transcend all boundaries of geography, nationality, political philosophy, gender, age, race or religion.

The Mission of Special Olympics

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

The Mission of Special Olympics Kosova

To develop healthy spirit, mind and body through sports for intellectual disability persons.

The Goal of Special Olympics That the goal of Special Olympics is to help bring all persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected and given a chance to become productive citizens. More about Special Olympics Requirements…

Special Olympics Athlete Oath Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

Special Olympics in Kosovo is a non profit  organization formed of volunteers and from people with intellectual disabilities that seek to share the ideal of building a human community of justice with love, tolerance and acceptance for the fullness of life for all.  Kosovo has around 40,000 persons with intellectual disabilities which is a huge percentage of the Kosovo population, and they face serious issues. People with intellectual disabilities in Kosovo fall below the social average in areas of health and employment. Many face injustice and exclusion resulting mainly from prejudice against disabilities. Special educational systems are in decline, and there are insufficient schools, teachers and other help available for the youth with intellectual disabilities. A very small number of individuals with intellectual disabilities, around 900 students, attend Special Schools. Public Support for people with intellectual disabilities is often based on charity rather than empowerment and inclusion.
