YMCA is international, voluntary service, nongovernmental, unprofitable, and ecumenical youth organization. YMCA is spread in over 130 countries world wide and has over 45 million members. At the moment YMCA is one of the biggest youth organizations in the world. The Headquarter of the World Alliance of YMCAs is in Geneva, Switzerland and of European Alliance (EAY) of YMCAs in Prague, Czech Republic. EAY consists of 40 movements (countries). EAY has over 6 800 local associations. YMCA through its programs aims to make young people grow in the wholeness of spirit, mind and body. The awareness to form the future generations talented with tolerance, adaptability, and understanding for our close, gives to the YMCA the necessary strong motivation to continue to follow the road undertaken more than 150 years ago. The conviction of the right attempts is given from the many volunteers who every year join the movement. YMCA serves people of all ages, incomes, abilities, races, and religions. Bound by a common mission, each branch functions independently, responding to the needs of its community. Today YMCA is involved in almost every corner of the social, economical and cultural life. Its range round the world enables in different parts in the world to focus on different problems of people which is exceptional for YMCA. In YMCA was founded International Red Cross, invented Basketball, Volleyball, Racquetball and established first indoor pools and child care programs. YMCAs have provided war relief since the Civil War, aiding millions of soldiers at home and abroad. YMCA helped people in World War I and II, and every conflict region around the world.
YMCA in Kosovo is a value based organization formed of volunteers that seek to share the ideal of building a human community of justice with love, peace and reconciliation for the fullness of life for all creation. It is a non-profit, apolitical, nongovernmental, nonreligious and inclusive youth association which aims to provide more opportunities and actively to interact with the youth in our local community. Inspired by the worldwide mission of YMCA as a viable answer to the needs of Kosovo, a National Office was established in August 2003. Afterwards programs in Prishtina and Peja started, and activities in Mitrovica, Ferizaj and Gjakova. Nowadays, YMCA Kosovo, as an national association, has 6 operating branches: Prishtina, Peja, Gjakova, Mitrovica, Y Media Club, and Y International.
